Question

How often should I visit the dentist?

Answer

The Canadian Dental Association recommends visiting the dentist for a cleaning every six months. For many oral health problems, dentists can offer multiple treatment options for dental care. These options may vary in complexity, durability and cost. A good example is that a dental implant, a bridge or a denture can all replace a tooth that has to be extracted. Which one is chosen depends a great deal on what the patient wants. Working together, the patient and dentist can choose the best treatment. This relationship is a shared responsibility. A dentist should explain each treatment option, including its benefits and drawbacks. The patient should tell the dentist about him or herself and his/her needs, and ask as many questions as needed to fully understand the treatment recommendations.
